Regional Victoria Needs Stronger Representation Not Self Interest Sex Party Lead Candidate Campaigning Across Victoria |
Australian Sex Party lead senate candidate, Dr Meredith Doig, says Victoria’s rural and regional community has been ignored and if elected on July 2, has promised to “sweep aside the politics and focus the federal parliament’s attention on the issues most important to our regions.” She is currently campaigning across Victoria. “Victoria’s rural and regional areas are the lifeblood of our state,” she said. “For too long successive federal governments have taken the regions for granted and not delivered the infrastructure and investment so sorely needed. “For the last few years, Senate representatives of Victoria have been focussed on themselves and not what really matters to the state. The major parties have been distracted by internal fighting and leadership challenges, whilst the independents and minor parties have been treading water in an attempt to keep their jobs. It’s not good enough. It’s time for true leadership.” Dr Doig nominated sorting out the tricky issue of dairy production as well as increased funding for road and rail infrastructure as her top priorities. “Our economy will lag behind if we don’t get investment in 21st century infrastructure to keep the flow of goods and services moving around our state, “ she said. “It’s critical for farmers especially.” Dr Doig has made no secret of her intention to tackle a range of social issues as well. “Taxing religious organisations has been at the cornerstone of my campaign, “she said. “The exemptions offered to those who ‘spread the word’ of their particular religion – whether that be Christian, Islamic or even Scientology - has got to stop. Whilst charities doing good work in our community will always receive tax advantages simply just preaching religion should not give you a financial windfall.” The Australian Sex party has a range of progressive polices including the legalisation, regulation and taxation of cannabis, support for marriage-equality, national abortion laws and less government intervention and oversight of peoples personal lives. “One thing that I can promise the voters of Victoria,” said Dr Doig. “Unlike many of the other candidates at this election, I am not beholden to any corporate or union interests. What I am beholden to, and the only thing that counts at this election, is the people of Victoria.” Dr Meredith Doig is currently campaigning across Victoria.
