Senate

Francesca Collins

Senate Candidate

Dr Francesca Collins is a behavioural scientist and educator. Since receiving her PhD in Psychological Medicine, she has taught at Monash, Princeton and RMIT Universities. Francesca is passionate about promoting education and evidence-informed policy.

Education drives progress – economic, social and technological - and it is the cornerstone of Francesca’s senate campaign.

Francesca is, herself, a beneficiary of the Australian TAFE and higher education systems which allow individuals from less privileged backgrounds to access a world class education. She is committed to protecting and enhancing this access for all Tasmanians.

Francesca will:

  • support Tasmania’s commitment to secular education;
  • advocate for sex and respectful relationships education from Prep to Year 10;
  • promote the inclusion of civics and political literacy curricula for Year 9 students;
  • champion the continued funding of UTas and promote Tasmanian student mobility;
  • protect TasTAFE funding; and
  • ensure access to Years 11 and 12

Francesca is step-mother to two young girls, an avid geocacher and fancier of Tasmania sparkling wines. She is especially proud of being  mentioned in the same paragraph as science luminaries Isaac Newton, Steven Pinker and Queen’s Brian May (Popular Science, August, 2004).
