THE Federal Government should do more to educate foreigners who want to come to Australia to work in the sex industry, the Australian Sex Workers Association says.
The government has announced a number of changes that will give sex slaves and other victims of people trafficking more support and visa certainty.
Association president Elena Jeffreys said more needed to be done to prevent women from coming to Australia illegally in the first place.
Women in countries where prostitution was illegal, such as South Korea, were often unaware they could apply for a working visa in Australia, she said.
"Australia should investigate options for offering visas to sex workers, removing the need to use a broker or an agent, which may expose them to a trafficking risk."
