Continuing to push adversarial approaches to justice will not reduce crime or the resulting harm. Justice reinvestment offers an economically prudent opportunity to lower crime rates, while restorative justice better addresses the harms of crime.
The federal government should create a National Strategy for Justice Reinvestment and sustainable criminal justice practices.
This funding should include:
- a four stage Justice Reinvestment package,
- incentives for states who reduce recidivism through innovative justice practices, and
- federal funding for state-based restorative justice projects.
