Religious exemptions to anti-discrimination laws

Under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, non-government schools established for religious purposes are permitted to discriminate against job applicants on the basis of religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital or relationship status or pregnancy in order to avoid ‘injury to the religious susceptibilities of adherents of [the school’s] religion’.

The Australian Sex Party will remove religious exemptions from national anti-discrimination legislation.
