The final countdown to the Niddrie byelection is on with residents deciding on a new MP this Saturday.
Despite nine candidates contesting the seat, campaigning has been relatively quiet with only the ALP's Ben Carroll, Greens candidate Josie Lester and the Sex Party's Amy Myers making their presence felt.
Ms Lester last week took to the trams in Moonee Valley campaigning for smarter investment in public transport.
Dressed as a tram conductor, she was promoting the reintroduction of conductors to make public transport "safer, easier to use and to help cut down on fare evasion".
Mr Carroll campaigned on Keilor Road with former premier Steve Bracks.
Also stopping at Airport West business Maccora Motor Industries, Mr Carroll was spruiking the need for a jobs plan for the state in the wake of a slump in employment figures.
Also having a dig at the state government's decision to cut funding to the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning, Mr Carroll said more investment was needed to encourage students to take up apprenticeships.
Launching her campaign on a Youtube clip 'Running for Niddrie', filmed mainly at the recent Moonee Valley Fun Run, Sex Party candidate Mrs Myers called for improvement to public transport in Niddrie and an end to random police searches without cause.
Independent David Linaker issued a press release stating the Australian Electoral Commission and Victorian Electoral Commission would not publish his full name, David Linaker-Liberal, on the ballot paper until it was the name by which he was commonly known
A supporter of the Liberal Party's performance in Victoria so far, Mr Linaker has called for a 'Bay Bridge' to be built across the Port Phillip Heads.
The byelection was made necessary after the resignation of long-time Labor MP Rob Hulls.
At the state election in November 2010, the seat was won by Labor with a margin of 6.9 per cent. Niddrie was first contested in 1976 and has always been held by Labor.
The Liberal Party announced last month that it would not contest the byelection.
