Following the announcement that the Australian Sex Party had been deregistered by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), we announced that we would be appealing the decision, and re-registering.
We have since received advice that if we were to appeal the decision but at the same time apply for re-registration, the new registration could create a new political party separate from the one appealing deregistration.
Given the possibility of an early federal election we have decided to apply for re-registration and will then look at continuing the appeal, upon successful re-registration. Any party not registered when the writs are issued for an election is not eligible to run in that election.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported the party in the past month, the new members who have signed up and the pre-existing members who have worked diligently to contact members to confirm membership details. It’s only through your continued efforts that we are able to pressure the major parties into addressing the issues they would otherwise ignore. A special thanks to Deb Avery who has been the driving force in our new application.
