Joel Murrayspent the first part of his work history in various government departments working on public policy, executive support, and project and grant management.

In 2008, he had the opportunity to undertake an internship with the Cunningham Dance Foundation in New York, which initiatedJoel’s interest in arts management and the not-for-profit sector. He worked for some of Melbourne’s top arts companies including Chamber Made Opera, Orchestra Victoria and Footscray Community Arts Centre and in 2012 graduated with a Master of Arts (Arts Management) with distinction from RMIT University.

Joelrecently worked for the Australia Sex Party, where he was responsible for public policy and the Eros Association where he lobbied for the adult retail sector.

Joelwas awarded Advocate of the Year 2015 by Living Positive Victoria for his work as a public speaker with the positive speaker’s bureau of both Living Positive Victoria and Hepatitis Victoria and work he undertakes in advocacy around issues affecting people living with HIV and viral hepatitis.

Joel's current work involves writing public policy on HIV, STIs and other blood borne viruses. He is passionate about drug law reform and believes in a human rights based approach to drug laws. An avid gardener, public transport user and walker of the city,Joelhas a keen interest in the built environment, open spaces and urban design principles. 

Joelis currently the Deputy Chair and Treasurer of the Dog Theatre Inc and is the Australian Sex Party candidate for Batman.
