Sex Party NSW Local Government Policies - Council of the City of Sydney

Nightlife - A 24-hour diverse and vibrant city.

• Support a diverse and vibrant nightlife in order to maximise social freedom and as a means to combat alcohol-related crime.

- A planning strategy which promotes a variety of late-night social choices, including restaurants, cafes, entertainment venues, shopping and exhibitions.

- 24-hour public transport on weekends.

- Better street lighting in nightlife hotspots.

- No blanket lock-out or curfew.

Drugs - Expanding drug injecting rooms and decriminalisation of drugs

• Extension of drug injecting rooms beyond Kings Cross.

• Lobby for the decriminalisation of purchase, possession and consumption of all drugs for personal use.

• No sniffer dogs in public streets and public venues.

• Public transport must be the priority in the city.

• Bus transit corridors through the city.

• Support light rail options through the city and to the universities.

• Cycleways properly integrated to add value to the transport and pedestrian networks.

• Study methods to reduce vehicle traffic in the city.

Sex Industry Businesses - End discrimination against adult businesses and sex workers

• Supporting the decriminalisation of sex work in NSW, and seeking to end local council discrimination against sex industry businesses including adult retail outlets.

- End discriminatory, restrictive and stringent planning requirements upon sex industry businesses.

- Local councils should support the location of brothels and adult businesses at ground floor level to ensure they are accessible to people with disability.

- Sex industry businesses should not need to relocate to industrial zones, which isolate sex workers into poorly lit unsafe areas.

- Sex workers should be able to operate from residential areas.

- Private sex workers should be permitted as exempt development in all zones to avoid harassment and discrimination.

- Sex industry businesses should not be subject to special provisions that set them apart from other businesses.

- Government should provide funding of safe houses for street based sex workers.

• Establish an independent Internal Ombudsman to oversee the integrity of Council.

• Increase efforts to stamp out corruption and maladministration.

• Live web broadcast of all Council meetings.

• Increase the use of social media for community involvement in decision making.

• Better use of Council's assets for investment in the city.

• Provide age-appropriate access to comprehensive sexual education material in all public libraries.

• Ensure that all public libraries include material relevant to queer and fetish communities.

Volunteers will be vital to the success of the Australian Sex Party at this, our first time running in local government elections - and we have a real chance of getting elected!! The support and inspiration we receive from people willing to donate their time to help us is the key to our success as a political party.

Sex Party volunteers on polling booths handing out How-To-Vote cards = Votes!

Handing out How-To-Vote cards on election day (or at pre-polling booths during the lead up) is fun and easy. A few hours is all we ask (although if you can stay all day we will absolutely love you!)

ELECTION DAY Saturday 8th September!!
There are 39 polling booths across the council of the City of Sydney, so we need lots of people to help us. There is no doubt that having Sex Party volunteers on polling booths increases our vote. Can you help us on this most important day of days?

Early Voting
Many voters will vote early in the week leading up to polling day. So we need people who can spend a few hours at the pre-polling centres handing out Sex Party flyers. Pre-poll voting opens Monday the 27th Aug and closes Friday 7th Sep.

Letterboxing
Get your walking shoes on and take a stroll around Sydney putting Sex Party flyers into voters letterboxes. The council of the city of Sydney is a big area so we need lots of volunteers pounding the pavement. Bannering
This is a really easy way to promote the party. A bunch of us in yellow Sex Party t-shirts meet around 7am at a busy corner with banners and placards to wave at local commuters. It is a great, free way to let local voters know they can vote for us.

Donate!
To get elected we need to raise money. We need to give the Party and our candidates a fighting chance in our campaign against other much better funded and more established opponents. So we are asking all our NSW members and supporters to dig deep.

This is it - we have started our campaign for the election of councillors and Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney. These are the first local government elections that the Sex Party has stood candidates in....Ever! This is the first opportunity we have had to campaign for civil liberty issues at a local government level.

This is why it is so important for us to make an impact in this election. We have a real chance of getting elected. The wonderful Zahra Stardust is our candidate for Lord Mayor and the amazing Andrew Patterson heads our team of five for the election of councillors. Your $50 donation will go toward the purchase of bright yellow 'Vote 1 Sex' t-shirts for our volunteers to wear at each polling booth across the council of Sydney. These t-shirts are one of our greatest forms of advertising!

• Even $10 goes a long way at election time!

We really are grateful for every single dollar that gets deposited into our campaign account so please dig deep. Your donation brings us closer to a seat in government - which will be the very first elected Sex Party representative!!!!

The very important fine print....
Because of the strict Electoral Funding regulations in NSW we can only accept donations from individuals who are listed on the Australian electoral roll. This is very important! It means we cannot accept donations made from your business and we cannot accept anonymous donations.
If we receive any donations that cannot be directly attributed to an individual on the electoral roll we will be forced to return the money or surrender it to the Electoral Funding Authority.
