In one of the most interesting porn vs religion stories in an Australian newspaper lately, the Brisbane Courier Mail’s, Bible Society Queensland targets porn lovers at Sexpo story on Feb 24th attracted 150 posts on its website following publication. The interchange ran at about 90% support for Sexpo and Sex Party philosophies and about 10% for the Christian lobby.

A sample of the positive feedback makes interesting reading:

It is amazing that people who have never met you and know nothing about you automatically tell you have a porn addiction because you are attending Sexpo. And if you attend Sexpo you do not have a meaningful relationship! Wow. They seem to think that the only people who attend Sexpo must be desperate and dateless perverts. So all those dating and married couples who attend are in trouble. How ignorant. Sex is a wholesome part of life and the more that the churches keep calling it sinful, the more people will turn away and hide it as if it is something to be ashamed of.

So would people be offended if sex workers attended a church service and handed out free porn?

Men in the Bible subjugated women and treated them like property. If you want to live your life to a code like that don't try to involve the rest of us. It's the rise of modern society that has allowed adults to enjoy their bodies and each other as equals. Having a Christian stand at Sexpo is a bit like having a stand for horse-drawn carts at the Motorshow!

If it isn't the government forcing it's views down your throat, it's the church.
They can believe what they like but should stay out of other peoples lives.
In my opinion, the stuff they believe and teach is a croc of sh*t, just look at the Catholic church and it's numerous child molesters, now there's an example to follow.

Rhys, your suggestion of "religiously-themed porn" has already been done. Larry Flint from Hustler had it in the 70s. I'd like to thank these bible bashers for the publicity, up till now I had not known that a Sexpo was on.

An interesting difference between Sexpo - which doesn't discriminate against the very people who you'd expect would love to shut it down - and the so-called 'Family Expo' run by fundamentalist christians which banned a group (friends of mine) who wanted a stall dedicated to helping one-parent families and same sex parents.
It tells you something pretty fundamental about fundamentalists - while Sexpo is run by well-adjusted, confident people the religious who run 'Family Expo' are terrified of anyone different. Why would anyone want to believe a religion that encourages such fear?
Cheers Jeff

Church goers and bible bashers do not need Sexpo to get their kicks, all they have to do is buy the daily newspaper and read about the latest sexual assault perpetrated by their local minister. When was the last time anyone heard one of these holier than thou tossers publicly condemn the pervert priest that has just ruined some poor kids life, or more importantly done something about stopping it? The answer to that is never, the silence is deafening when it is one of their own. What a bunch of bloody hypocrites.

I am a practicing Christian, and although I don't like the pornographic content of adult stores and Sexpo, in my opinion (and many others) there is nothing wrong with having adult toys etc in your marriage. I go to these stores regularly to find things for my wife and I. I also think religious people should lighten up about sex, because it was created by God and in its context there's nothing wrong with it!

Maybe whilst the religious anti porn campainers are lecturing people they can offer an opinion on why religious organisations dont pay tax like the rest of us and why should they expect to be able to lecture society on anything from politics to our private lives.
