Canberra's new National Arboretum is gathering pace and in a couple of years will be an amazing place to visit. Julia Gillard recently planted a Knowledge Tree there, Mal Meninga planted a really fuggin big one and Barnsey even planted a Flame Tree!
A week ago, Sex Party president Fiona Patten and other members of Civil Liberties Australia (CLA), were invited to attend the planting of Australia's first Liberty Tree by former ACT Chief Minister, John Stanhope. The tree was a self-seeded Kurrajong which already looked like it could go a round or two with Jim Wallace, Fred Nile and half the National Party, without even wilting.
John Stanhope's civil liberties credentials were read out before he took the podium and they were awesome. He is without a doubt one of the most important freedom fighters Australia has seen in recent times. Also present were current ACT Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher and former Liberal leader and current ACT magistrate, Big Bill Stefaniak.
Sex Party members already claim a sacred site on top of Mt Ainslie every August, when we protest against the invasion of the religious tribes of Pastor Danny and the Catch the Fire Ministries, as they do their annual booger-booger prayer job on the federal parliament. However the hilltop at the National Arboretum Canberra, upon which stands the National Liberty Tree, shall forever become a rallying point for issues of liberty and freedom.
Civil Liberties Australia supremo, Kris Klugman shows the Liberty Tree sign to Fiona and civil liberties giant, John Stanhope.
