The Great (Alternative) Debate

High Profile Minor Party Candidates to Face-Off

With a recent poll showing nearly a third of the electorate intends to vote for a minor party or independent at this federal election, it’s only fair that Victorians, the most progressive voters in the nation, get to hear from those alternative candidates.

A joint-venture initiative of the Australian Sex Party and Australian Equality Party, The Great (Alternative) Debate will be held on June 16, 7:30pm - 9:30pm at the Kelvin Club in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD and gives voters a chance to hear from these alternative voices in real debate setting. This exchange is sure not to send its audience to sleep.

The event will feature:

Meredith Doig
Australian Sex Party

Derryn Hinch
Derryn Hinch's Justice Party

Jason Tuazon-McCheyne
Australian Equality Party

Peter Madden
Family First

Clara Geoghegan
Democratic Labour Party

Jason Ball
The Greens

The debate will be moderated by JOY 94.9 broadcaster Dean Beck.

The Great (Alternative) Debate is the first-of-a-kind event profiling the minor parties and high-profile independents and is guaranteed to heat up. Derryn Hinch and Clara Geoghegan from the Democratic Labour Party will face off whilst Family First will attempt to take on Meredith Doig of the Australian Sex Party. The Australian Equality Party candidate Jason Tuazon-McCheyne is sure to have a forthright exchange of ideas with Green hopeful Jason Ball.

Australians are clearly sick of the robotic campaigning and sleep-inducing debating style of the two major parties. This event will showcase a real contest of ideas - by real people.

* UPDATE 8th June: due to the floods in Tasmania, Jacqui Lambie will no longer be attending the debate.
