Some people in Mt. Pleasant (U.S.A.) are apparently shocked — shocked! — at the advertisement for an adult store that appeared on the side of a bus Sunday evening in the Mt. Pleasant Christmas Light Parade. Are you ready to see it? Brace yourselves, y'all. Here it is:

guilty-bus

Town Administrator Eric DeMoura had this to say about the advertisement in a press release today:

The Town neither sanctioned nor approved the advertising. The party responsible for the float failed to disclose its inclusion on the required entry form and displayed the sign without notice to Town officials. We do not support the adult-themed advertising presented on the float. The language was contrary to the family-friendly nature of the parade and brought controversy to an otherwise exceptional parade.

The banner appeared on the side of the Charleston Cool Bus, a refurbished school bus that is rented out for events including bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, and birthday parties. Guilty Pleasures is an adult store on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston, and manager Laura (she does not want to give out her last name) says her store actually advertises on the outside of the Cool Bus year-round. During the parade, the band Chinese Fire Drill played on the roof of the bus, and a banner hung from the side with a cartoon Santa Claus and the phrase "Gifts for the Naughty and Nice!!!" Laura doesn't see what all the commotion is about.

"I don't think that it's inappropriate in any way," she says. "I don't know why people try to keep denying that they're having sex, but it's pretty obvious that they are."

Laura says she first heard a complaint about the banner on an FM radio talk show this morning. DeMoura issued his statement that afternoon.

New Zealand's "king" of legal cannabis faces trafficking charges in Australia after allegedly being found with a "commercial quantity" of drugs.

Matthew Wielenga was arrested about 8pm on Friday in the Melbourne suburb of Southbank.

The 30-year-old is facing charges of trafficking a commercial quantity of synthetic cannabinoids and two counts of possessing a drug of dependence.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday heard he was found with more than 100kg of Kronic, a synthetic marijuana product, and 1kg of white powder said to be a synthetic cocaine sold as Diablo.

The alleged drugs are yet to be analysed and Wielenga had made no admissions, the court heard.

Defence lawyer Greg Barns said the elements of Kronic kept changing and might not fall within the substances banned by Victorian law.

Wielenga was granted bail on a A$100,000 surety and is to reappear in court on March 18.

Marijuana Vending Machine Maker’s Stock Skyrockets PDF Print E-mail

Based on this month’s election, the idea legalizing marijuana seems more popular than ever. Two states, Washington and Colorado, have legalized pot at the state level. With the legal marijuana market looking stronger than ever, there are companies looking to build around big-marijuana when commodity reaches critical mass.

For now, most of those companies are waiting in the wings, but not medical supply distribution producer MedBox, which has been thrust into the spotlight. The company, which makes vending machines for hospitals, pharmacies, and “alternative medicine clinics,” has seen its stock price rise by 3,000 percent since the 2012 election. You’d think MedBox executives would be ecstatic, but in reality, the company is terrified of what will happen now that it’s suddenly become so popular on Wall Street.

The company’s overnight success was based on the fact that it’s are poised to swoop in and fill the needs of pharmacy, smoke shop, and gas station that may want to start selling legal marijuana. The problem is that such a demand doesn’t actually exist yet. Until the federal government legalizes pot, states where it’s legal still won’t be able to sell it outside of medical dispensaries.

Meanwhile the spotlight is on MedBox, and investors may expect it to grow and succeed right away, even though its epic popularity is based on the popular hunch that it’s only a matter of time before the company’s products will be needed.

Justin Bieber Sex Doll Blows Up at Online Adult Store PDF Print E-mail

BeiberEver wanted a piece of Justin Bieber? An enterprising adult store now wants to make sure you get every last inch of him.

Naughty Beliebers, behold: the Justin Bieber blow-up sex doll!

Or, rather—cough, cough—it's the "Just-in Beaver Love Doll," which bears an uncanny resemblance to the pop star, minus his trademark tattoos and plus, well, a whole lot more.

The item, which is being hawked by Pipedream Products, retails for $26 and sports a box that proudly blares, "I'm not gay! (OK maybe a lil')" while imploring, "I wanna be your boy toy!"

On it, a bare-chested Biebs look-alike puts on his best come-hither look while rocking a cocked baseball cap.

The product's description itself defies any G-rated excerpting, but we can tell you that the manufacturer promises that the "Beave-ster doesn't have this effect just on women–he turns straight men gay faster than you can peel his skinny jeans off."

There you go: a product with broad market appeal.

We've reached out to Biebs' camp for comment, but you can bet the product won't stay on shelves for long: It comes from the same folks who created a similar Miley Cyrus-inspired sex doll, which was quickly, ahem, yanked.

A methadone clinic in uptown Saint John has the highest patient retention rate in the country, according to a new study.

The numbers show 95 per cent of methadone patients at the Saint John’s Uptown Clinic, based out of St. Joseph’s Community Health Centre, stayed in the program after one year, nearly double the rate of programs in other parts of the country.

“No one has come even near that,” said Timothy Christie, regional director of ethics services for Horizon Health.

He's been studying the uptown clinic's methadone treatment since 2009.

Methadone is a drug used to help control the withdrawal symptoms from opiates.

Christie said the difference at the Saint John clinic is that patients don't have to take counseling, or pass drug tests to stay in the program.

"We showed that it's the opposite result. By removing all punitive measures, we have nothing but fantastic results for the patients,” he said.

Two men are being ordered to pay $1.5 million each for uploading gay pornographic movies to file-sharing sites without permission from the Florida distributor, Flava Works.

Both Cormelian Brown of Delaware and Kywan Fisher of Virginia were ordered to pay the maximum $150,000 fine for each of 10 Flava Works films a judge concluded that they separately uploaded to Gay-Torrents.net and other sites.

The damages, the maximum allowed under law, are the highest ever in BitTorrent cases.

By comparison, Jammie Thomas-Rasset, the first music file-sharer to go to trial, was dinged $2 million by a federal jury in 2009 for sharing 24 MP3s on Kazaa, the now-defunct file-sharing service.

Twitter copyright policy change promises “transparency” through censorship PDF Print E-mail

Twitter has prompted user confusion by implementing a new copyright policy that censors contentious tweets rather than deleting them altogether, a shift that the microblogging service argues is more transparent. According to Twitter’s legal policy chief, Jeremy Kessel, the change offers “more transparency by processing copyright reports by withholding Tweets, not removing,” though some users have still criticized the approach for  potentially censoring first and investigating second.

According to Twitter’s official DMCA policy, the company reserves the right to restrict access to a contentious tweet before a final decision on whether copyright infringement has actually taken place:

“Twitter’s response to notices of alleged copyright infringement may include the removal or restriction of access to allegedly infringing material. If we remove or restrict access to user content in response to a notice of alleged infringement, Twitter will make a good faith effort to contact the affected account holder with information concerning the removal or restriction of access, including a copy of the takedown notice, along with instructions for filing a counter-notification” Twitter
