Two reports commissioned by NSW Health to look into transgender health care have recommended that surgery be provided to transgender people under the public health system as is their right under Medicare. After spending thousands of dollars on the reports in 1996 and as recently as 2005, NSW Health have refused to comply with the findings and continue to deny transgender people their rights under medicare.
The ASP will set up a program whereby those seeking genital modification can have the surgery performed under the public system as was done in the late 70's and as is their right under medicare.
