Key Policies:

  • Advocate for non-compulsory voting franchise to be extended to 16 to 18 year olds
  • Support schools to develop innovative and individual programs to provide for their students
  • Educate students on safe use of information and communication technologies
  • Advocate for secular public schools
  • Call for the complete cessation of chaplains in government schools and mandate that counsellors possessing psychology qualifications be available to all students
  • Replace the Christian volunteer-run Special Religious Instruction program in public schools with curriculum-based units on Comparative Religion and Ethics
  • Attach requirements on public funding to private schools that their policies be non-discriminatory and inclusive of all students, in line with public expectations

Political Literacy and Voting for Young People
Increasingly, Australians are unaware of the complexities and mechanics of our political system. The Australian Sex Party seeks to re-engage young Australians by:

  • Incorporating compulsory Civics and other political literacy subjects into the implementation of Phase Three of the Australian Curriculum, and educate young people about political theory and mechanics from a young age through to graduation
  • Extend a non-compulsory voting franchise to young people aged 16 to 18, to encourage engagement by interested individuals and in young people’s social networks
Support School-based Initiatives
Schools face a myriad of circumstances and individual students often require a flexible response from educators to realise their potential. To support individual schools being able to provide student-specific programs, the Australian Sex Party will:
  • Support schools to develop innovative and individual programs to provide for their students, providing educators with flexibility and funding to provide for individual students’ needs
Secular Education
The Australian Sex Party believes that public education should be secular. To achieve this, we will:
  • Call for an end to the proselytisation that occurs in religious classes in public schools
  • Call for the complete and immediate cessation of the chaplaincy program in government schools and mandate that counsellors possessing psychology qualifications be available to all students
  • Attach requirements on public funding to private schools that their policies and practices be non-discriminatory and inclusive of all students, in line with public expectations
