The Australian Sex Party has slammed the LNP’s recent change to the Civil Union legislation, claiming it has marginalised the LGBT community and set the state’s equality progress back ten years. They say that proposed changes set to exclude people in same-sex relationships from the surrogacy laws will only further alienate the community. Facebook groups like “Stop the bullying of the LGBT Community by the Australian Christian Lobby” have exploded with activity since the decision, with members universally condemning the LNP’s actions.

ASP spokesman Lionell Pack claimed that it wasn’t just the revoking of recent rights at issue. “The message the LNP has sent is that the church gets the final say. If it offends the church, it’s out.” He went on to say that the LNP’s stance should concern all Queenslanders. “Many of us aren’t Christian, and even those who are often don’t want to follow strict biblical law.”

The Sex Party has used this as an opportunity to renew their call for a register of religious affiliation for all politicians. “People have a right to know what they’re voting for. If an MP is going to listen to his church before his constituents, he should disclose that.” Mr Pack explained that opposition to the LGBT community wasn’t even a feature of mainstream Christianity anymore. “Right now, we have a fringe, hyper-conservative group of Christians dictating our state legislation. I don’t think anyone knew they were voting for that.”

The Australian Sex Party is a nation-wide political party dedicated to defending the rights of everyday Australians against religious intrusion, and they are actively seeking Queensland members
