The South Australian Sex Party has called for the immediate cessation of the use of drug sniffer dogs in public places following a drug raid on the Exeter Hotel on Rundle Street tonight.
Sex Party spokesperson Jason Virgo was meeting with a local activist group and as he was leaving with another committee member he noticed “a police officer walk in with a terrible attitude and look us both up and down like we were criminals.”
“We commented to each other how rude his behaviour was and as I walked out I noticed police officers with a sniffer dog enter the Exeter.
Virgo said he was informed by a fellow committee member that people seeking to leave the Exeter because the meeting that had adjourned were prevented from doing so until the dog had sniffed them.
“We must immediately end these draconian practices and focus on proper crime prevention, it is particularly upsetting to me because I know that amongst the people I was with I would hardly doubt any of them would have a criminal conviction yet they were treated like common criminals.” Virgo said.
"Rann needs to get his priorities right, instead of focusing on making our streets safe from violence they have these police resources tied up looking for drugs.” Virgo said.
