Anna Van Riel
Anna was a great Sex Party volunteer and an inspiring spruiker for us at Brisbane Sexpo. She also turned out to be an accomplished musician, singer, photographer and all around spunk! She’s just released her first CD of 11 songs entitled, Solar Panel - many of them self-penned. And hasn’t the girl got some talent! Sounding something like a cross between Maria Muldour and Missy Higgins she moves through folk, Caribbean, soul and rock with ease.
We asked Anna if she would perform for us at Sydney Sexpo in September. “If I'm not touring in NZ, skiing in Japan or squatting over a bucket in India, I'll be there”, she said.
When we asked her for her views on love and life she responded with a little ditty: Sex Sells; You know it's true So I decided to brew up a big sex stew
I threw in my panties and also a bra To anyone else, this might seem quite bizarre
The stars on the ocean, a warm moonlight night And I cleverly whipped in some rich Barry White
A Spanish guitar made of shiny red wood This brew was beginning to taste pretty good
Marilyn Monroe in a lusty sex scene Which made proper sense to throw in James Dean
A lace neglige and a four-poster bed It's cliche but I put a red rose at the head
I threw everything in and I stirred it all night I knew it was ready, the odor was ripe
So I sniffed it and sipped it, and what did it do? It just burnt my tongue, that pot of sex stew
Check out her talents with a ukelele in this cute home recording but for the big sound and a great band behind her, email her and purchase a copy of the studio recorded CD. Its brilliant. Times may be tough and we may not be visiting our favourite restaurant or splashing out on electronic goods as much as we used to but the quality of our sex lives seems to be getting more attention then ever.
As couples increasingly hunker down at home it seems there is at least one bright spot….were having more sex and buying more adult products to spice things up!
“Of course there is concern about the economy but we are seeing month on month increase in sales” says Liberator Australia CEO Nigel Hobbs, a manufacturer of sex furniture and pleasure objects. “The adult industry is shielded in a way…people stay home more when times are tough and a direct result is increased intimacy for couples. Let’s face it…its inexpensive entertainment. And being able to shop adult products and prices anonymously online adds even further attraction”

Forty years after liberated women felt able to say "no" to their partners' demands for sex, they have been urged to say "yes" more often to keep their men happy. Sex therapist and psychologist Bettina Arndt said different libidos were creating a generation of men who were "miserable, angry and really disappointed" that their need for sex was "being totally disregarded in their relationship". Arndt has written a book based on the diaries of 98 couples, who kept records of their sex lives for periods from six to 12 months. The Sex Diaries, an excerpt of which appears in Good Weekend today, revealed women dreading bedtime and men hurting from rejection. |
