Churches should pay for their sins - not taxpayers

Leader of the Australian Sex Party and Victorian MP Fiona Patten has slammed the Federal Government's free pass to religious institutions on a national compensation scheme for sexual abuse survivors, saying an 'opt-in' scheme was not recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

"It is disgusting that institutions failed to act on abuse in the first place. Now they are being let off the hook again when it comes to compensation for survivors."

Australian Sex Party leader Fiona Patten, who initiated the inquiry into end of life choices, welcomed the move to bring on legislation next year.

"This is the right thing to do. Allowing terminally ill people the right to die when they choose, with dignity, is not only compassionate but common sense," she said.
